3 Ways to Combat a Sedentary Lifestyle

Over the past year, the COVID19 pandemic has made it harder for people to stay active. With most of us spending more time than usual at home and gyms and fitness centers closed or operating on a limited capacity in order to slow the spread of the virus, it can often feel like our lifestyles are becoming more and more sedentary. Whether you’re missing out on regular visits to the gym to work out or simply not moving your body as much as you would if you weren’t staying at home, a sedentary lifestyle can have a negative impact on both your physical and mental health. The good news is that keeping your activity levels up and combating a sedentary lifestyle and its effects is still possible, even when you’re stuck at home.

1. Get Out for Walks

Although going to the gym might not be the safest option for many people right now, and several gyms are no longer open to the public as a result of the pandemic, the good news is that there’s a very low risk of catching COVID19 in an outdoor space. Getting out for walks outdoors is a good way to spend some time outside of the home during the lockdowns, and it will encourage you to move your body more while getting some fresh air. If you’re lucky enough to live close to a park or green space, getting out for a short walk every day can make all the difference when it comes to your health and well-being.

2. Try a Home Workout Routine

With more and more people working from home and spending more time than usual in their houses, the number of resources available to help us stay fit and active indoors is on the rise. Today you can find tons of workout videos, apps, and other helpful resources to help you put together a home workout routine that works for you even if you don’t have a lot of home fitness equipment. There are apps that you can find to talk you through various exercises from stretches to weight lifting at home but definitely stretch the quads first to avoid injury.

3. Invest in Home Exercise Equipment

If you prefer to exercise using the kind of equipment that you would normally find at the gym, the good news is that you can get all kinds of options designed for your home. You can get exercise bikes that fold away when not in use that makes the ideal addition to your home and this is a great way to get moving in the time when you’d normally be sitting on the sofa watching TV.

Right now, the COVID19 crisis has led lots of us to live a more sedentary lifestyle than usual, with gyms closed and people being asked to stay at home as much as possible. However, the good news is that there are still several fun ways to get moving while being COVID19-safe.
