I have many fears. Especially when it comes to myself. I’ve always been quite an insecure person and have never trusted myself enough. I’m afraid of not being good enough studying, afraid of not being able to develop a nice career, afraid of being unhappy, afraid of not achieving my personal goals, afraid of not being loved, afraid of illness and death… I guess that fear is a very common feeling for everybody, but we must learn how to let go of it.
Dalai Lama once said: “If there is no solution to the problem then don’t waste time worrying about it. If there is a solution to the problem then don’t waste time worrying about it.” The first time I read this quote I thought it was brilliant. Reminding myself of it could help me detach from my fears. However, it turned out not to be that easy for me to let go of those negative thoughts.
When I started meditating, I understood why Dalai Lama would say something like that. Meditation has taught me to be more aware of everything I do. It helps me to be more conscious of every single moment and to live the present, so that worrying about the past or the future is no longer important for me.
So now, if there is a moment when I start wondering and worrying about what is going to happen in the future, I just meditate. And the happiness I feel keeps me carefree and makes my fears dissipate.
