Speaking the Truth in a World that Celebrates Popular Opinion

The advent of social media has hastened the process of the world becoming a global village. People all over the world are more connected than they have ever been. People increasingly relate with and understand each other because social and cultural boundaries have been broken. In this context, truth has come to mean what the masses believe or purport to be true.

It is humanly to want the validation of others — to march in time with the majority — but it is more important to confirm the truism of whatever it is you stand for, before brandishing it. As the aphorism goes, “speak your truth even if your voice shakes”. Truth never becomes false due to not being accepted, it never depreciates; it is unchanging. As humans, we ought to live honest lives, for it is the foundation upon which a happy society is built.

Connecting with my inner self

One of the most valuable and useful life tools I learned is to take a moment to connect with my inner self and filter my thoughts and words from this place of truthfulness and love; in this way only the right words are uttered. Especially in such a busy and fast-evolving world we are living right now, the importance of connecting to one’s own truth has never been more meaningful and valuable.

Over the decades, famous leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, Mother Theresa, Martin Luther King, and Oprah Winfrey have demonstrated the importance of truth through their lives and teachings. They are proving that speaking the truth in the face of adversity, even if it endangers one, is the best way to navigate through life.

Life becomes a beautiful adventure

It goes without argument that the most important form of truth is being true to oneself; we just need to be ourselves, as speaking from the heart has light and power. Having the courage to face yourself, acknowledge your flaws and strengths. When we learn to look within ourselves and live our own truth — life becomes a beautiful adventure rather than a journey of “people pleasing”. Sometimes things won’t work out exactly as we have planned, when you feel like Murphy’s law “whatever can go wrong, will go wrong” is at work. Regardless of how many things may be working against you, speak your truth, live your truth, be the truth!
