How To Unhook Your Mind?

Have you been thinking about one specific thought, then you ended up thinking about dozens of stuff and thoughts? It could be memories, ideas or fear about the future. Did you feel that your mind is lost, and you lack concentration? Once the mind is full of distractions, the impurities of the mind start affecting the stability of the whole person. It’s because the impurities create impure emotions, turning to impure speech and impure actions. However, the original state of the mind is clarity. The only tool to clear and stable the mind is mediation, which will help to unhook the mind.

The Mind

The mind is designed for survival. Imagine, if we are in really old ages when humans lived in the caves and among predators.

In that case, you will need the whole attention of your mind to be stable enough to see, smell, feel and analyze every possible threat in the surrounding environment.

Nowadays, humans are safer than before, most of us living under a roof, has a clean water, food, hence we are safe from predators more than ever.

However, our minds still analyze and attach to everything, whether it is positive or negative. This often leads us to stress, which is one of the main reasons of depression and negative daily habits,

affecting our inner peace and thus our outer peace including family, friends, colleagues and the whole world.

The Hook

The case of attaching to everything is very similar to the case of passing a hook in a dirty water full of impurities.

The hook will attach every impurity and rotten plants, which will turn the hook into a big pack of dirt, and so is for the mind. If the mind is in the hook condition, it will grab every wandering thought. Then gradually the mind will become impure and unstable, transforming this instability to emotion which will turn into a speech, then to an action.

What if we close our eyes and breathe slowly in and out, letting go of everything attached to the mind? Just focusing on your breath; this is how you unhook your mind and clear it. This is how you meditate. As an example, Victor Davich presented this simple way of meditation in his book 8 Minute Meditation.

Meditation

Throughout the ages, humans have been trying to find their outer peace in their physical environment. While they were surviving daily for the basic needs, gradually they lost their inner peace.

This is how we are now familiar with stress, depression, gossip, anger and the list is increasing. Here comes the importance of clearing the mind and stabilizing it through meditation. Meditation is a very old technique that has been used to stabilize the mind. When you meditate, you have to let go of all the impurities and distractions. It’s important to note, however, that letting go is not muting and stopping the mind from thinking, because it is against the mind’s nature.

During meditation you just observe what comes across the mind, you just watch and observe. So, the mind will automatically calm down and settle, relaxing the physical body enabling you to see clear through the pure eyes of the mind.

How To meditate?

In order to meditate, you don’t need special arrangements, you only need to arrange the mind. Here are the steps to help you prepare:

First, choose a quiet, clean and organized space to sit.

Second, sit comfortably (on a chair or on the floor) with your back straight without pushing the lower back.

Third, close your eyes peacefully and slowly as you are going to sleep.

Fourth, breath slowly and gently without making a sound of your nose.

Fifth, keep your focus only at one thought, breathing in and out.

Watch your breath and keep your mind there. You can set the alarm for 8 minutes to do this daily.

You will notice how your mind condition is changing and how it makes you feel. Try it now!
